I was thinking about a concept of 'money & happiness' when I was choosing what universal beliefs I should take to discuss with Ajaan Liz in class. I read a belief of “I need more money” several times and every time I read it I came to question if money can buy happiness. Would having more money make you happy?
I have heard people say that money can buy you happiness. Because it is money that can fulfill most of your needs and wishes: Money keeps us alive, money gives us freedom. Money offers us ability to do what we want, and it is still money that brings us social status.
However, I wonder whether we can really be sure that while we are possessing money, the money does not possess us.
In my opinion, even when money can buy things to make you happy, it is also bring you suffering. Money makes ones fear to be poor. Money makes ones scare to be robbed. Money makes ones desperately want more and more money. Money makes ones burnt by jealousy. Money makes ones fight. These are just examples I can think of how money can bring us suffering and that somehow ruining our happiness.
To me, money is not a goal to reach to. It is actually a way that could possibly lead me to get to my goal. Of course, it might help us getting closer and much easier to happiness, but it can’t always buy happiness.
I love the article youve just post. For me, I think money can buy 'some' happiness but not always. Some may be happy with a lot of money but some are just not.
ReplyDeleteI like the saying I've heard in the clip Aj. had shown in the class that "you cannot have more money than you have," it's true!
No matter how much money you have, you can be happy with it. Just learn how to use it wisely and you'll be happy with it. :)
money cant buy me LovE
ReplyDeleteCan money buy happiness? I think it depends on people’s definition of happiness. If one think of having a fancy sports car can make he happy and he can afford it, then yes. Money can buy happiness. In the other hand, a girl who likes to buy brand clothes, spending money on shopping for clothes makes her happy. In this case, for her money also can buy happiness. But the question is: Will the material wealth really make people happy? Is that true material wealth means happiness for people?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, things can buy with money are always change. Material wealth may make me happy for a while. But sooner or later I will find the new car or new clothes can’t make me happy any more. I want something more. Happiness is not about how much money do you have. For me it is about how much money do I still have and how I spend it on the worth place. This process makes me happy.
Like a saying in the movie Gump Forrest:There is only so much of fortune a man really neads and the rest is just for showing off.
Hi guys. Once when I studied in Bangkok, I was a turor and had my own business about online shop. You know, I could make a lot of money in each month and I rarely asked my parents for money. At that time, I could buy, eat, hang out with friends or do whatever I want. Now, I work in my hometown ,Phrae, where provides not much opportunities like I used to have. My life style has changed and also my income, however I can accept this working life. I'm content with what I have and feel relaxed with what I be. But if you ask me about what my happines is, my Bangkok life moment will come first in my thought.
ReplyDeleteMoney can't buy me but it can 'hire' me.
